A useful quotation starts with your wishes
A memorial is made up of several decisions, so a photograph alone is rarely enough to understand its final cost. The stone, overall dimensions, shape, finish and inscription all need to be considered alongside the cemetery and installation requirements.
It is helpful to share a budget you feel comfortable with. This is a starting point for discussing the options, not a commitment to spend it. If some details are still undecided, ask which choices make the greatest difference so you can focus on what matters most to your family.
Look at the whole proposed design
Ask what the quotation covers: the headstone, base, any surround, the agreed lettering and any decorative or bespoke work. A simple outline and a more individual design may involve different amounts of work. More than one language, hand-designed calligraphy or additional detail should be discussed as part of the proposal.
If you are comparing options, keep the specification beside the price. Two photographs that look similar may represent different dimensions, finishes, inscriptions or included services. A clear written description helps you understand the difference without having to rely on appearance alone.
Separate cemetery arrangements from design choices
Ask which installation arrangements and cemetery charges are included and which are separate. Bolton Council, for example, publishes distinct charges for memorial permits, foundations and additional inscriptions in its current fee schedule. The relevant charges need to be confirmed for your own cemetery and proposed work; there is no universal figure to apply to every location.
Also ask whether the quotation includes applicable taxes and whether any items remain subject to confirmation. This makes the total easier to understand before the design is approved.
Make room for questions before deciding
Al Nour prepares individual quotations once the design wishes and cemetery details are understood. You can begin with a style you like, approximate wording and the location, then refine the choices together.
- Request the complete specification and total price in writing.
- Check what is included, excluded or awaiting confirmation.
- Ask about payment stages, timing and changes to an approved design.
- Discuss ongoing care separately so future support is clear.
